Recently, I met a lady who is in her late 60s who was sharing her testimony with me. She had a very godly chidlhood. She thanked God for her parents. As she grew up in the fear of the Lord, she wanted to pass on the same legacy to her children. She told us to observe her child and was so confident about her child and said, Please observe my child. I can guarantee you my child will not take wrong decisions. It was a bold statement by a mother about her son.

Raising children and especially godly children is not easy. But God gave us this great task of raising our children for His glory. How many parents realize that God has given us the privilege of raising our children for Him? We teach them secular things, want them to perform well in studies, get engaged in physcial activity etc. These are all required. I would go a step further and say they are all mandatory. But how much do we teach our children about God?
It is not a correct attitude to expect the church and pastor to handle the spiritual things of our children. The pastor spends only a fraction of time with our children. So how can he (pastor) have more influence than us (parents)? In the Old Testament, the parents had to teach the law to the children. Deut 6:6-8 says - And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates .
Our kids are precious to us and also to God. They are smart and lot smarter than when we were growing up. They observe us very closely. May we give them a godly heritage!
